China on Thursday officially launched a mobile search engine application tailored for adolescents, in a bid to filter and block harmful online content for youngsters.
The search engine, named “Young”, is developed by Xinhua News Agency.
Based on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and supported by big data and deep learning-based algorithms, the app can screen out unhealthy content such as violence, pornography and gambling.
With the AI robot companion-style search service of “Young,” users can search online for age-appropriate content and find answers to their questions anytime and anywhere, the company said.
It can also recommend quality content such as online courses, video and animation, based on users’ age, gender and interests.
Since it began trial operations before the Children’s Day this year, the app has been downloaded more than 10 million times, ranking high in the Apple App Store, according to Xinhua.
