An Expat’s Push For A More Accessible Shanghai

Shanghai is a pioneer in many aspects, like business and innovation, but also in raising the standard of living for those in need. Blind people and those with impaired vision have opportunities here that they wouldn’t have almost anywhere else in China.

Assisted-viewing movies pair up seasoned radio and television presenters with a movie screening to describe the action to the visually-impaired. It’s not just Chinese people getting in on it either. Foreigners are doing their bit to help, too. Irene from Spain got her PhD in media accessibility from SISU to help bring the joys of the movies to those who can’t see.
