China-U.S. Highlights: China’s First 3D Peking Opera Film

Editor’s note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and China. The years cannot tell you the story without photo and video recordings. The photo exhibition “Trans-Pacific Exchange and Cooperation” has officially opened at the Shanghai Municipal Archives, Bund Branch(Number 9, NO 2 East Zhongshan Road). The exhibition will last until August 15. More than 300 carefully selected photos highlight the cooperation and exchange between Shanghai and the US. We will select some of the archived photos and tell you the story behind them. Let us understand the history, center on the present, and look to the future.



Farewell to My Concubine, China’s first 3D Dolby Atmos Peking opera film, was shown overseas for the first time at Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles, in May 2014.




This film is jointly produced by Shanghai Film (Group) Co.,Ltd., Shanghai Peking Opera Theatre and other units. It is directed by Teng Junjie, council member of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and a film director, and starring famous Peking opera actor and actress Shang Changrong and Shi Yihong. It attracted the high attention of the film community overseas. The U.S. Library of Congress, Harvard University, Columbia University, Stanford University and Chicago University jointly held a grand ceremony for the collection of its copies.



It wins the “Annual Best Music Film Award – Lumiere” of the 6th U.S. International 3D Advanced Imaging Society, the first time a Chinese film wins this mainstream award for 3D films in the world. (2014)
