China on Thursday expressed firm opposition to the abuse of export control measures of the United States and urged US lawmakers to stop the proposed bill targeting Huawei, ZTE and other Chinese telecommunications equipment companies.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying made the comments at a press briefing in response to some US lawmakers’ introduction of a bill that would ban exports of US chips and components to Chinese telecom companies, such as Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, ZTE Corp or other Chinese firms.
“Such a move shows the extreme arrogance of certain US lawmakers as well as their extreme lack of confidence,” said Hua.
“It is obvious to all that the true intention of the US side is to use all kinds of state apparatus to suppress and block Chinese high-tech companies,” Hua said.
China opposes US abuse of the so-called export control measures and US interference in normal trade activities of enterprises, Hua said. “We urge relevant US lawmakers to stop suppressing Chinese enterprises, stop the relevant bill and do more to build mutual trust and cooperation between China and the United States.”
China also urged the US to stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and damaging China’s interests, and to do more things that are conducive to mutual trust and cooperation.
Hua made the remarks when responding to reports about US Vice President Mike Pence’s accusation against China at Global Chiefs of Mission Conference on January 16.
Hua said that the United States recently smeared and made groundless accusations against China on issues including debts, trade, the South China Sea, international rules and religious freedom, “yet facts have refuted all those accusations.”
The United States baldly adopted double standards on the application of international rules, said Hua, adding that the US side is not eligible to wag fingers at China on this issue.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-US diplomatic ties, said Hua, urging certain US people to view China’s development and China-US ties from a correct and reasonable perspective, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and impairing China’s interests, do more things that are conducive to mutual trust and cooperation, and work with China to maintain the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.
