China’s First AI Pilot Zone Breaks Ground In The City

On the 21st, Shanghai began construction on the country’s first AI pilot zone. The pilot zone is mainly built around three goals. The first is to create an AI industrial cluster. This will be done through the cultivation of a core industry focused on AI chips, connected cars, robots, and hardware to improve the industry’s foundation. In order to build distinguished industry clusters in areas such as Zhangjiang and Jinqiao, a group of internationally competitive enterprises will be introduced.

The second is to expand the applications of AI technology. Through the development of AI+ healthcare, AI+ manufacturing, driverless cars, and AI+ finance, benchmark projects will be formed. The innovative products, platforms, and services of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will also be tested in Pudong and demonstration areas in Shibo, Lujiazui, Zhangjiang, Jinqiao, Lingang, and more will be built.

The third is to create an AI support system. Public service platforms such as AI industry evaluation, technical evaluation, and industry databases will be built around the three core elements of algorithms, computing power, and data. The building of talent is also key, which will be done by increasing the introduction of senior professionals.

A “China Race Track” was also unveiled as a key application scenario at the AI pilot zone kickoff meeting. With so many exciting new developments just around the corner, Shanghai is becoming the place to be for tech!
