Chinese Celebrities Supporting People With HIV/AIDS

Today is the 30th World AIDS Day. It is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic, and mourning those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.

Ahead of the 30th World AIDS Day, WHO China Special Envoy for Health Jia Wang, Muye Wu, Jackson Yee and Xiaotong Guan went to Switzerland with four teenagers affected by HIV through mother-to-child transmission. They started the trip of “See the World with Me’, one of the first such campaigns of its kind where celebrities eat, live, travel, spend time and share space together with people living with HIV/AIDS.

Four celebrities produced the documentary and music video under the theme of “Holding You”. They were received by WHO Director-General at WHO headquarters in Geneva. Chinese youth leaders delivered keynote speeches calling for people to end discrimination and help people with HIV/AIDS to live a safe, secure and productive life free from fear of isolation.
