Nanhui Prison is using a different tactic to try and rehabilitate its inmates. Located in Pudong New Area, it houses mostly has old, sick and disabled prisoners. Since March of this year, the prison has started focusing on Chinese traditional culture to help the inmates change their lives.
December 4th was China’s National Constitution Day. As the constitution is all about protecting people’s rights, and the prison is attempting to make the inmates worthy of those rights again, they held an activity to show the progress being made through traditional Chinese culture.
Nanhui prison invited 4 law enforcement supervisors and 32 family members of prisoners to attend. Through art performances and the display of intangible cultural heritage, people got a deep understanding of the strides the prisoners have made in their rehabilitation.
