Driverless Trucks Unveiled at Yangshang Deepwater Port for WAIC

As part of the opening of the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference today, the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Project “Intelligent Heavy-Duty Driverless Truck” was officially unveiled at Yangshan Deep-water Port.

This project will provide port container intelligent trans-shipment solutions. It was jointly developed by SAIC, Shanghai Port Group and China Mobile.

Intelligent driving and automatic loading and unloading of cargo in the port area will be carried out along the 32.8-kilometer Donghai Bridge to the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Lingang New Area, greatly improving container trans-shipment efficiency as well as the capacity of the Donghai Bridge in the future.

In the first phase of the Yangshan Port Project, three slow-moving, heavy-duty trucks were particularly impressive as observed by one reporter who sat in the cabin during the test of the smart heavy-duty trucks. They were conducting intelligent driving tests on specific routes in the port area. During the whole process, the steering wheel was not controlled by the driver, greatly reducing the driver’s workload.
