Since the first Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) was held in 1993, it has become one of Shanghai’s signature cultural events. The 22nd SIFF is going to be held from June 15th to 24th.
3,964 films from 112 countries are in this year’s SIFF. Of all the films, 500 outstanding films have been selected and broadcasted in 47 movie theaters across Shanghai. The film festival will also hold various activities to incorporate the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. These events will aim to outline the charm of Asian movies.
During the SIFF’s special 70th anniversary segment, the audience will be able to enjoy 12 dramas and 2 documentaries from different time periods. These films reflect the rapid progress China has gone through in the last seven decades and provide a clear picture of that time period.
Notably, this year’s “Belt and Road Week” has expanded its scope, and 24 films recommended by international members will be shown. 38 film festival agency representatives from 33 countries will gather in Pudong and participate in events such as film communication, round table discussions, culture trips, and movie night.
