The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued this year’s first yellow alert for high temperatures this morning.
The yellow alert, the lowest in a three-color system, was released at 10am. It is expected that most of the city will have their highs reach 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, which means today is likely to be the first high temperature day this summer.
This year’s 12th solar term dashu, or greater heat, begins today, which indicates that the hottest period of the year is here.
During dashu, the temperatures are anticipated to hit the peak and the crops grow fastest.
However, disastrous weather often comes during this period, when days of extremely high temperatures are expected.
