Little People Are The Big Spenders At Shanghai Book Fair

This year’s Shanghai Book Fair has attracted more than 500 publishers bringing with them 160,000 unique titles. The most popular genre this year is children’s books accounting for one-quarter of China-wide book sales.  Not surprisingly, the most popular categories are science fiction and cartoon books with one of the most popular titles this year being Wandering Earth, which has sold more than 10,000 copies already. Children from 0 -9 years accounted for the biggest increase in sales this year, with picture books being the flavor of the season. Most interestingly is a trend away from electronic books as parents and kids prefer printed titles to their e-book counterparts.
