To mark it’s twentieth anniversary, Nanjing Road’s pedestrian street will be extended to the Bund. The move is expected to attract high profile retail outlets to take advantage of the decision. The extension will increase the length of the pedestrian mall from 1,500 meters and the whole project will be finished around the middle of next year. Companies are already expressing interest along the extension, with Huawei being one, with plans to open a flagship store covering more than 7,000 square meters, the worlds largest. As well, many foreign companies are expected to locate there offering culture, fashion and unique experiences to tourists, who spent 19.3 billion Yuan in the street in the first half of this year.
