Sniffer dogs working for Shanghai Customs can now be identified by a new uniform that has been specially made for them.
There are 30 dogs working at Pudong and Hongqiao airports, Wusong Port, the International Cruise Terminal, Shanghai Railway Station and the city’s international mail-processing center. Now they all wear the same uniform.
Between January and April this year, the dogs helped Shanghai Customs intercept more than 6,300 batches of items banned from entering China, such as endangered animals and products derived from them. Many of those items are not easy to spot via X-ray checks but can be sniffed out by the dogs.
The dogs are well trained and looked after. They are of good temperament, officers said, and won’t attack people.
