Pudong airport will soon get a new satellite terminal along with underground trains to transport passengers between terminals and parking lots. The new satellite terminal is part of Pudong airports expansion program and will handle arrivals, departures and transit passengers adding nine boarding gates to the airports total. Departing passengers will still need to clear customs and immigration at either T1 or T2 then take the shuttle train to the new satellite terminal. The terminal will shorten transit times for passengers. There are plans to build a new transportation hub that will connect airports with railways. Xie Feng, Director of Shanghai Transportation Commission says there are discussions underway to build a new railway station from Shanghai to Pudong Airport that will create an integrated transportation hub. Pudong airport will be able to handle 80 million passengers annually, an increase of six million increase from last year.
