Oscars Fashion: Pink Makes A Major Play On The Red Carpet

Before the first statuette was even handed out at the 91st annual Academy Awards on Sunday night, so many winners were already crowned in the fashion category on the Red Carpet outside the event.

And at this year’s event, pink was a central theme, seen on the likes of Julia Roberts, Helen Mirren and Gemma Chan.

Shades of pink were red hot on the red carpet.

“Crazy Rich Asians” star Gemma Chan stunned in a billowing sleeveless Valentino gown in a vibrant neon shade of pink with a high ruffled collar – and pockets.

Recent Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves also chose oversized ruffles in her princess-like Giambattista Valli, with two poofs of pink tulle at the shoulder and a skirt covered in layers of tulle in Barbie-doll pink.

Angela Bassett was easy to spot in an electric pink gown by Reem Acra whose gargantuan bow at the shoulder was worthy in itself of an award.

Actresses Linda Cardellini (“Green Book”) and Helen Mirren both went for oodles of romantic pink tulle, too.

Even home organizing guru Marie Kondo – who sparks joy for millions – hit the red carpet in a joyful pink dress.

“The biggest thing tonight is pretty in pink,” said celebrity stylist Sam Saboura, who noted the color made a splash at the recent spring shows in Paris.

“Another big, big trend is exaggerated volume, ruffles and feathers, ruffly feathery things,” Saboura said.

And Julia Roberts, while closing out the Oscars ceremony in her flowy bright pink dress by Elie Saab, concluded the pink party for the event. Skipping the red carpet earlier, Roberts”served up a grand fashion finale that was worth the wait,” wrote Vogue.

The Pantone Color Institute’s 2018 “Color Trend Report” predicted that a pink tone stylishly named “Sweet Lilac,” would be the color next season. It seems pink is already shining inside the fashion circle.
