Reaching American Hearts Via Their Tummies

Shanghai and New York City have a closer connection this year.

 

A three-day Shanghai Food Festival titled “Eat, Love, Shanghai” began in New York on November 19th.

 

 

The event is at the Macy’s flagship store located at Herald Square in New York City.

 

During the event at One Below (the lower level) of the Macy’s store, Marriott International offered some of Shanghai’s signature classics, such as xiao long bao (steamed soup dumplings), qing tuan (green sticky rice balls) and savory moon cakes to over 1,000 visitors per day. There are also cooking classes with executive chefs to offer New Yorkers an immersive culinary experience.

 

 

 

 

The event took a comprehensive approach via multimedia and ample audience participation to promote Shanghai as a top tourist destination in the world.

 

The large digital ad display in the background played the promotional video “Our Shanghai”, and a themed photo booth titled “Escape to Shanghai” where attendees are encouraged to participate and take selfies against a backdrop that depicts the beautiful nighttime skyline of Shanghai.

 

 

A Virtual Reality (VR) film geared by Samsung Group immersed participants into a 3D interactive travel experience through Shanghai.

 

The event also featured a calligrapher from Shanghai who used the Chinese writing brush to write transliterations of attendees’ American names.

 

 

 

Shanghai has always been a beloved destination for US tourists. Nearly 600,000 tourists from the US visited Shanghai in the first 3 quarters of 2018, which represented a 12.25% increase year-over-year.

 

Now that they have gotten a taste of what Shanghai has to offer, those numbers are sure to grow!
