Relieving Spring Festival Congestion

Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on February 5 this year. The holiday travel peak, chunyun, will last from January 21 to March 1. It is expected that nearly 3 billion passenger trips will be made across the country this year.

Shentong Metro Group said that in order to alleviate the pressure of the second half of the Spring Festival Transportation, from February 9 (the fifth day of the lunar year), Shanghai Metro Lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 will implement a “multi-starting stations” plan. During that period of time, Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghainan Railway Station, and Hongqiao Railway Station will add more metro trains. This will help to deal with the large flow of return passengers.

Meanwhile, temporary Spring Festival special bus lines will be added from February 10-12 and 20-22, connecting the Hongqiao transportation hub with Fengxian, Jiading, Jinshan, Minhang, Qingpu and Songjiang districts. These buses will depart the transportation hub every 15 to 30 minutes until midnight.
