The last week of summer fun before students head back to school, and school buses and their drivers are getting special attention from police to make sure both are in tip-top condition. Starting this week, police will conduct random checks on drivers and vehicles. The checks have already caught one driver who is suspected of taking drugs while on duty. Buses are checked for a variety of safety features including sprinkler heads and brakes and any problems detected must be fixed before being allowed to go into service. Drivers likewise will be put under the spotlight with checks on prior accident records to mental health issues being conducted.
