Shanghai Book Fair Going Out!

With 500 new books and 200 events, the Shanghai Book Fair is going out to the Yangtze River Delta for the first time this year.

 

 

In cooperation with physical bookstores such as Zhongshuge, more than 50 sub-venues will also be held in other cities across China! The 2019 Shanghai Book Fair and “Fragrance of Books in China” activities will be held from August 14th to 20th, and this year marks the 16th birthday of the event.

 

 

The main venue will still be located in the Shanghai Exhibition Center, the exhibition area of which is 23,000 square meters. There will also be more than 100 sub-venues across Shanghai, making a reading atmosphere pervade the city. At this year’s book fair, readers will have access to the first issues of more than 500 new books published by presses all around China, as well as more than 200 relevant signing activities. Everyone entering the fair will have the opportunity to meet with authors face-to-face.

 

 

A series of activities related to ‘seven’ will be held during the seven-day Shanghai Book Fair. There will be seven biographies of model figures exhibited in the “Respecting Seven Models” reading party. The ‘Seven-day Class of Sinology’ will present classics such as the Book of Songs, poetry of the Tang and Song Dynasties, and novels of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. On the ‘Seven-Day Literary Symposium’, there will be seven seminars with Chinese and foreign writers about the spiritual nourishment of the homeland for human beings. The ‘Famous Writers Seven-day Talk about New Works’, will be held under the theme of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, expressing patriotic enthusiasm, as well as revitalizing traditional Chinese culture, especially Jiangnan culture, focusing on places like Qingpu District, Jiashan County in Zhejiang Province, and Wujiang District of Suzhou in Jiangsu Province.

 

 

There will also be many literature masters during the Shanghai International Literature Week, like British writer Lindel Gordon, Japanese writers Mitsuyo Kakuta and Hirano Keiichiro, and Chinese writers Sun Yong, Ye Zhaoyan and Ma Yuan. Readers will have opportunities to meet with 33 famous writers both from China and abroad.
