Food, beverages, shopping and entertainment are the new focus for Shanghai’s night economy. To kick-start the plan, Xintiandi in Huangpu District, launched a pedestrian street to allow visitors and shoppers easier and more comfortable access to the street’s nighttime activities, and to help the campaign, part of Huping Lu will be closed to traffic on weekends. The closure began last weekend and has already proven to be a great success with the public and shops along the street with more than 30,000 people coming out last weekend to take a stroll in the cool of the evening. With food and beverage outlets staying open until midnight or later, the temptation to stay out a little longer and enjoy the evening has already proven itself a winner with shoppers.
