Shanghai’s Conservatory of Music has a new acquisition-the Shangyin Opera House. The building, eight stories high, including three underground levels, has seating for 1,200 audience members and has employed the latest sound proofing technology.
The U-shaped main auditorium allows audiences to get closer to the stage and each seat has its own screen which displays translated sub-titles of performances into 8 languages. As part of Shanghai’s Art Festival next month, the new venue will stage 13 operas including Mozart’s, The Magic Flute.
