Shanghai is likely to feel the effects of tropical storm Danas over the next few days with increased winds and showers, forecasters said.
The weather bureau said the city is now at the edge of an area of subtropical high pressure which will rise temperatures, increase clouds and scattered showers.
Danas divided into two systems after its western periphery passed the Philippines, a rare occurrence. That might be because the storm’s center is weak after it formed but the convective cloud clusters on its two sides are stronger.
At 5:30pm, Danas had a radius of 200 to 300 kilometers and was 400 kilometers southeast of Taiwan’s southernmost tip of Eluanbi. It is moving north at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour, the National Meteorological Center said.
Its latest forecast said it may land in the coastal areas of Fujian Province or Taiwan between Friday night and Saturday morning.
Temperatures in Shanghai between Thursday and Sunday will range from 26 to 34 degrees Celsius. The rain will cease from the middle of next week when there will be some high-temperature days — days with a high of 35 degrees or above.
