China’s National Tourism Day falls on May 19th every year, beginning in 2011. The date was chosen to commemorate one of China’s literary masterpieces, Travel Notes of Xu Xiake.
Ancient travel book writer and geographer Xu Xiake (1587-1641) began writing his masterpiece to document every step of his travels around the country. Xu travelled around China for more than 30 years and he started writing his travel book in Ninghai County, east China’s Zhejiang Province on May 19th, 1613.
70 local landmarks will offer half-price tickets on May 19th for National Tourism Day this year.

Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park
