The Empty Nests: Part One

The middle is hollowing out of China’s rural villages. The working-aged people have all moved to major cities to earn a living, leaving behind their parents in the villages, and often their children for their parents to look after. It has left a world of only the elderly and the children.


Zhaodi Wang lives alone in her rural village. Although she has many children, she has to get by on her own, despite her bad eyesight. One son visits for New Year’s, but outside of that, she has to navigate the slow life by herself.
