The blossoming period of the wisteria is upon us soon! Trellises of barren vines will soon turn to purple waterfalls, brightening the days and delighting the noses of all who pass by.

 

Here are some of the best places to experience the beauty around Shanghai.

 

1. Old Vine Garden

 

It has the oldest wisteria, 3.7 meters high and 1.5 meters in circumference, and has been a fixture in Shanghai for more than 470 years.

 

Location: No.148 Lincang Road, Minhang District

Hours: 7:30-17:00

 

 

2. Jiading Wisteria Garden

 

Jiading Wisteria Garden is one of only three parks in the world with the theme of wisteria. Experts say the blossoming period is around April 20th. Although the park covers an area of only 14,000 square meters, it is one of the most popular parks in Shanghai during the blooming season. We recommend that you take public transportation and avoid the peak times.

 

Location: No.45 Bole Road, Jiading District

Line 11 White Silver Road Station, change to Jiading No.6 Bus, 14 stops later at Borno Road Jinsha Road Station, then about 140 meters on foot.

 

 

3. Song Qingling Cemetery

 

The most low-key wisteria garden. It’s the place to go if you want a more solitary experience.

 

Location: No.21 Song Yuna Road, Changning District

4. Shanghai Botanical Garden

 

When you see the wisteria from a distance, it’s like a park full of romantic purple waterfalls.

 

Location: No.1111 Longwu Road, Xuhui District

 

Tickets: 15 to 40 RMB

 

 

5. Guyi Garden

 

The weeping wisteria winds along the river, taking on the garden’s unique flavor.

 

Location: No.218 Huyi Road, Nanxiang Town, Jiading District.

 

Tickets: 12 RMB
