Xi Jinping: Stopping Violence, Restoring Order The Most Urgent Tasks For HK

Chinese President Xi Jinping says stopping violence, curbing chaos and restoring order are the most pressing tasks for Hong Kong.

President Xi made the remarks as he addressed the 11th BRICS leader summit in Brasilia, Brazil on Thursday.

The radical and violent criminal activities that have been taking place in Hong Kong have seriously trampled on the rule of law and social order, seriously damaged Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, and seriously challenged the bottom line of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, Xi said.

“We will continue to firmly support the chief executive to lead the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government to exercise its power in accordance with the law, firmly support the Hong Kong police to enforce law strictly and fairly, and firmly support Hong Kong’s judicial institutions to punish violent criminals in accordance with the law,” he stressed.

The Chinese government is steadfast in its determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, implement the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, and oppose the interference in Hong Kong affairs by any external forces, he said.
