Postage stamps commemorating the Year of the Pig are set to go on sale from January 5, 2019, available online and from 2,000 post offices around China.
The theme for the Year of Pig is family and culture, and is centered on the core concept of “family joy”. Each set includes two stamps bearing the designs of “Fat Pig For Fortune” and “Five Fortunes Gathering”. The price for the stamps has been set at 2.40 yuan.
According to stamp circulation policy, the total number of stamps in circulation will fall by 20%, after 2018’s circulation reductions of 27%. The 2019 Year of the Pig commemorative stamps are thus more rare than any commemorative stamps released in the last nine years.
Commemorative Zodiac stamps first started circulating in 1980, and in their own way have told China’s story over the last 40 years. Even though the supply is dwindling as their circulation decreases more and more every year, the demand is expected to be higher than ever.
